One Size Does Not Fit All!!

I’ve been an athlete most of my life. From 4th grade through college-basketball has been a major part of my life. Needless to say, I’m accustomed to working out.
After college I took about 6-9 months off from doing any type of weight training or running. When I began training again, I went back to my normal basketball method of training. It was then I realized I wasn’t getting any results.

My body hit a plateau!

From that point I began researching different workouts/workout routines that I felt would help me get over the hump. I didn’t have any knowledge of fitness training, so in a nutshell I was winging it and hoping for better results. When that failed, I decided to educate myself on the different aspects of fitness! It was then that I discovered the world of body building. Everything about this aspect of fitness intrigued me. It ignited a passion for working out that I wasn’t aware of.
With that desire being sparked, I decided to compete in my first bodybuilding competition (fitness category). I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I went into training with the assumption that what worked for others would work for me. This was one of my biggest mistakes. The training & dieting was vigorous, but nothing I couldn’t handle.

However, I wasn’t getting the results I desired. I had to take a step back and reevaluate everything. I eventually quit.
I didn’t take it as a loss or as time wasted, but embraced the process and used what I learned to help others. This experience birthed my desire to become a certified personal trainer.

The process allowed me to learn a lot about the fitness industry and myself. I learned what diet and/or exercises worked and didn’t work for my body type. This did not happen over night. It has been a long road but through much determination, consistency & trial/error, I knew how to get the results I need. This was an on going process!

Have I figured everything out? No!

Yet, I understand that I will always be in a place of learning.  This is one thing I will always stress to my clients! I want them to understand that when it comes to getting in shape (and staying in shape) we all have a process and it will take time, effort & consistency to discover what works for them.

I do agree with you about what works for some one else does not work for you. I was a runner for 4 years basically the running was damaging my knees and feet. My weight was like an yoyo uo and down. I had to stop running and I let my body rest for two months no exercising at al but eating healthy and 2 mile walks a day. I prayed and prayed about should I do about getting back active in exercising. One day a friend of mine invited me to try a workout with her and her Persanol Trainer at EIR in New Haven. I loved the work out we did boxing, weights, treadmill all mixed routines. I have decided to join and work out inches started shedding on my first week now my starting weight was 225pounds I am going on my fourth week. I am down to 218pounds I love the definition I am getting from intence work out. Running has nothing on weights it is a big difference. I like this topic because everyone is just following and not taking time out to know what there body craving for.
